England U20s to face Baby Blacks in JWC semi-finals

England Under 20s recorded a record 109-0 win over the USA to set up a clash against New Zealand in the semi-finals of the Junior World Championships in France.
Despite a 31-24 defeat to the Baby Boks in their second game, England scored 17 tries to qualify as best second and make it to the last four.
The Red Rose youngsters could have topped the pool but South Africa overcame a feisty French outfit 26-19 to remain unbeaten and qualify as the No.2 seed.
England will now have the opportunity to take their revenge on the Baby All Blacks who beat them in 2011, 2009 and 2008 finals.
Ireland could have pip England for a place in the last four if they picked up both bonus-point or beat New Zealand and it looked like it was going to be the case when Edward Byrne went over with 15 minutes to go to bring back the Irish within eight point and only one more try to score.
But the most successful nation in JWC history held on to the win and, despite Ireland picking up the losing bonus-point, England had their qualification. In the other semi-final, South Africa will face Wales.
From the kick-off the outcome of the game was never in doubt and Alex Day’s second try after 15 minutes secured the try-bonus point with Henry Purdy and David Sisi also going over.
Despite the scoreboard showing Nick Walshe’s men up by 24-0 already, they didn’t take their foot off the pedal and further tries from Ross Moriarty, Joel Conlon, Ollie Devoto and Ben Howard took the lead to 48-0 at the break.
Conlon and Howard brought England’s game tally to ten tries inside the first five minutes of the second half and make it 62-0.
The rest of the game felt more like a training with opposition and Day, Moriarty, Tom Stephenson (twice), Purdy, Sisi, Tom Smallbone ran in seven more tries to break the century of points.
