Cardiff Blues fly-half Rhys Patchell has been called upon by Wales to replace Rhys Priestland for their two-Test tour of Japan.
The Scalets’ playmaker aggravated his Achilles tendon in last Friday’s RaboDirect PRO12 semi-final defeat to Ulster.
Patchell, 19, was due to play for Wales U20s in Junior World Championship next month but will now tour far-east with the senior squad. He has scored 147 points in 22 appearances for his club this season and will join up with Wales this morning.
Ken Owens, Scott Williams and Liam Williams who picked up knocks in the defeat to Ulster, will continue to be monitored by the Wales medical team.
