London Irish have signed hooker Mike Mayhew on a three-year contract from Newcastle Falcons.
Mayhew joined the Sunbury-based side as injury cover earlier in the season and made four appearances for the club, including two in the Aviva Premiership.
The hooker has played 30 times for the Falcons since signing from North Harbour in New Zealand.
This is the third Championship player to sign for the Exiles in two days after they announced yesterday the capture of Rotherham duo Eamonn Sheridan and Fergus Mulchrone
Mayhew said: “I really enjoyed my time down at Sunbury earlier this year and was really keen to come back on a permanent deal. It was fantastic playing in front of the passionate Irish supporters and I look forward to doing it a lot more next season.”
London Irish Director of Rugby Brian Smith said: “Mike made a big impression when he played for us earlier in the season so I’m delighted he’s bought into our vision for the future at our club. He’s a big fella and dynamic ball carrier so he’ll fit into our game very well. Mike is also English qualified and I believe he has the potential to kick on and play Test rugby.”
