Warriors deserved to take the glory

Warriors deserved

Glasgow Warriors’ 21-16 win over the Bulls in Pretoria to clinch the URC title has earned them deserved accolades after outscoring the home side by three tries to one in front of 50,000 South African fans.

In some ways it was poetic justice after the Bulls played fast and loose with the traditions of the European Cup by sending a second team to Northampton to play a quarter-final.

A Bulls outfit which looked as if it might be rewarded by claiming a first URC title could be forgiven for not only underestimating the Scots, but also mistakenly thinking it had played the final a week earlier by beating a Leinster side stacked with Irish internationals 25-20 on the same ground.

The giveaway came in the Leinster post-match comments when the Bulls promising young No.8 Cameron Hanekom got ahead of himself in terms of pumped-up rhetoric, proclaiming: “This is our home, and you don’t come here and mess around with us…”

A week later, a flat-looking Bulls side had their home well and truly burgled by a Glasgow outfit that made light of the altitude, and the heat, to lift the silverware.
