London Irish have signed experienced Italian centre Luca Morisi, bolstering their midfield options with their first major signing of the summer.
Morisi, 31, who has won 34 caps for the Azzurri, ends a decade long spell at Benetton, a club where he also had a short spell on loan in 2011.
In over 100 appearances for Benetton, Morisi featured in seven separate editions of the European Champions Cup, and was part of the team that won the Pro14 Rainbow Cup last year.
Irish Director of Rugby Declan Kidney focussed on the veteran’s experience as he commented on Morisi’s signing.
He said: “Luca boasts a good amount of club and international experience, which can be a valuable asset to any squad,”
“We look forward to seeing his impact, both on and off the field.”
Morisi himself relished the chance to play in the Premiership, as he moved away from Italy for the first time, having played for Grande Milano Rugby and Crociati RFC before his move to Benetton in 2012.
“I am very thankful to have this opportunity presented to me as it has always been an aspiration to play in England,” Morisi said.
“I believe this is a brilliant move for myself and my family, and I can’t wait to prove myself to Declan and his staff.”
