Saints terminate Sharman’s contract

Brett Sharman has been released by a day after his club announced it would be taking disciplinary action against him for an abusive tweet about Mo Farah.
The South African hooker caused outrage when he used his Twitter account to write on 11 August, when Farah won the second of his London 2012 Olympic gold medals: “Good luck Mohammed running for Paki … I mean Great Britain.”
Farah, who was born in Somalia and moved to Britain when he was eight, won the 10,000m and 5,000m races in the Olympic Stadium.
On Thursday, Northampton said they would be taking action against Sharman for the tweet, and although there is no mention of it in their statement, they have now announced he has left the club.
The Northampton statement said: “The 25-year-old hooker joined the Saints midway through the 2008-09 season, with the last of his 68 appearances coming in January’s LV Cup trip to .
“Since then a knee injury has ruled him out of action, and with no immediate prospect of Sharman returning to full fitness the decision was made to terminate his contract.”
