Cardiff Blues have confirmed that Sam Warburton will undergo surgery on a fractured cheekbone today.
The Wales captain suffered the injury in a clash of heads with Josh van der Flier during the 13th minute of Saturday’s 16-13 defeat to Leinster.
Following scans and maxillofacial specialist opinion Warburton will have a small plate inserted in his cheekbone.
The Wales captain faces a race against the clock to be back in time for the autumn internationals after it was confirmed that he is expected to be out of action for approximately two to four weeks.
