The RFU has confirmed that assistant coaches Andy Farrell, Mike Catt and Graham Rowntree will leave their positions with England.
The future of the three had been in doubt since Stuart Lancaster left his role as head coach in November, but nonetheless they remained under their contracts that were due to run until 2019.
Eddie Jones‘ intentions were made clear over the weekend with Saracens director of rugby Mark McCall confirming that Paul Gustard had received a job offer, and is now expected to succeed Farrell as defence coach.
While Bristol coach Steve Borthwick has been sought by Jones to be chief of the scrum and line-out for his new look England.
The exits of Farrell and Rowntree mark the end of a four year association with the senior England setup, while Catt leaves after three years as the new coach embarks on rebuilding the World Cup hosts.
Jones said: “Having met with all of the coaches to talk through the future direction, we felt it was the right time to make changes. They are all experienced guys and have contributed greatly to this England team over recent years and I know everyone at the Union is appreciative of their hard work and commitment.
“On behalf of the players that have benefitted from their coaching and RFU, I wish them the very best for the future.”
Farrell joined the England set-up in a permanent role in 2012 having split priorities between the Red Rose and Saracens, while Rowntree leaves having joined Farrell for the Lions tour to Australia two and a half years ago after building his credentials with Leicester. Speculation about Mike Catt returning to London Irish may be triggered by the Exiles’ struggles.
