Leicester Tigers have been dealt a huge blow ahead of the new season with second-row Louis Deacon suffering a shoulder injury.
The England lock has undergone surgery and faces a further spell on the sidelines after missing half of last season with a hamstring injury.
Leicester Tigers coach Richard Cockerill said: “We made the choice to have the surgery now. He started training with a shoulder problem which we thought would settle down, but it didn’t so we have had to tidy that up.
“I would rather have him missing for the first few weeks of the season and then available for the rest of it, because he is going to be very important for us.”
