HIGHLIGHTS: Australia beat tired Fiji in Cardiff

Sekope Kepu made the best of frantic schedule and recorded a 28-13 win in .
While the only kicked off their tournament at the Milennium this afternoon, it was the Pacific Islanders’ second match in the space of five days after the opening match against last Friday.
Drawn in the Pool of Death, Fiji were hoping to overturned the odds and qualify to the quarter-finals  but facing two Tier One nations in less than a week proved too much and they conceded three tries as David Pocock, twice, and Sekope Kepu both went over for the Wallabies.
True to their style, Fiji never stopped trying and Ben Volavola’s try on the hour kept them in the game but they could never close the gap and they now need a miracle to get out of the pool.
Crucially however, Australia’s three tries meant they missed out on the all-important try bonus-point try and are one point behind England and in the table.

Bernard Foley put the Wallabies in front early with a penalty but mid-way through the first half, Nemani Nadolo levelled the score with one of his own.
By the half-hour though, Australia had pulled away as Pocock found his way over the line twice from the back of dominant and well-organised driving mauls.
Foley converted both and added a penalty to see the Green and Gold lead 18-3 at the break.
Tighthead Kepu showed some quick feet to score Australia’s third soon after the restart to increase the lead but a second Nadolo penalty and Volavola’s try reduced the gap to 12 points.
The game started to open up and Fiji threw the kitchen sink at the Wallabies but Foley ended their slim hopes of a comeback with his third penalty ten minutes from time.
Australia had to keep attacking though as they looked to secure the try bonus-point but Tevita Kuridrani’s yellow card stopped them in their tracks.
