Dylan Hartley could still play at the World Cup despite being dropped by Stuart Lancaster back in June.
The England hooker was hit by a four-week ban for head-butting Jamie George in the Premiership semi-final while playing for Northampton.
The ban meant he would have available for the opening game against Fiji pushing Lancaster to remove him from his World Cup training squad.
But forwards coach Graham Rowntree has not ruled out a recall once the 29-year-old has served his suspension.
“How can I see what is going to happen in the future?” Rowntree said..
“I have spoken to him and kept in contact with him. So I know he’s fit and available if we needed to do that.
“I’ve worked with him for a long time, and I have a good relationship with him. The conversation was just to see how he is getting on pre-season. No more reason than that really, I keep in touch with all the players.”
Calls for Hartley’s inclusion followed England’s defeat to France on Saturday where the lineout was under huge pressure with Tom Youngs and Jamie George failing to make an impression.
