Shane Geraghty kicked a last-gasp drop goal to help London Irish claim a 26-25 win over the Exeter Chiefs at the Madjeski Stadium yesterday.
Gareth Steenson looked to have handed Exeter’s first win in four Premiership games with two late penalties but Geraghty snatched it in added time.
Before that, the Chiefs took a 13-5 into half-time with Dean Mumm crossing for a try and Steenson kicking the conversion and two penalties.
But the Exiles scored three tries early in the second half to go 20-13 in front. Tom Guest was first to score with Alex Lexington following and Blair Cowan adding to his first-half try.
Dave Ewers’ try for the visitors closed the gap to two points but Tom Homer gave the hosts some room with a penalty before the last ten minutes’ drama.
In the other game, Newcastle almost certainly condemned London Welsh to relegation with a 38-7 win over the Exiles.
The Falcons scored six tries in total with Sinoti Sinoti, Rob Vickers, Mike Blair, Will Welch, Ally Hogg and Tom Catterick, who also kicked four conversions, all going over.
Nick Scott scored a solitary try for London Welsh who are now 20 points adrift at the bottom of the table.
