Liam Williams will start on the left wing for Wales against South Africa on Saturday after George North failed to recover from concussion.
The Northampton star suffered the injury in Wales’ 34-16 loss to New Zealand last weekend and, after undertaking the necessary protocols, Warren Gatland has opted to leave him out of the final match of the November Series.
The change is one of three made by Gatland with Gethin Jenkins starting at loosehead and Scott Baldwin coming in at hooker. The duo replace Paul James and Richard Hibbard respectively who were not available for the game as it falls outside of the international window.
“We have had a couple of changes forced upon us, with the injury to George [North] and with Paul [James] and Richard [Hibbard] returning to their clubs but we have named what we think is a very strong side,” said Gatland.
“Last weekend was a very intense, physical encounter. The guys were disappointed but we have come in this morning, the squad are feeling fresh and the focus is looking ahead to Saturday and the test against the Springboks.
“As coaches we will be asking for the same effort, intensity and desire as last week and we want a repeat of that at the Millennium Stadium on Saturday.”
Meanwhile, the Springboks will field an entirely new back three with Full-back Willie le Roux and wings Cornal Hendricks and Lwazi Mvovo returning to the side after last week’s 22-6 win in Italy.
The trio are among five changes made by head coach Heyneke Meyer to his starting XV with prop Tendai Mtawarira and hooker Bismarck du Plessis also included.
JP Pietersen, Bryan Habana and Johan Goosen, who started in the back three last weekend, are all unavailable because of club commitments while hooker Adriaan Strauss and prop Trevor Nyakane drop to the bench.
