Newcastle Falcons have signed second-row Kane Thompson from Super Rugby side The Chiefs.
The Samoan international has 28 caps for the Pacific islanders and becomes the third signing in the lock department for Dean Richards, following Josh Furno’s move from Biarritz and Uili Kolo’ofai from US Colomiers.
Thompson, 32, has vast experience playing in New Zealand having also represented the Highlanders, as well as running out for Hawkes Bay and Southland in the ITM Cup.
“Kane is a proven operator at the highest levels of rugby in the Southern Hemisphere and has done very well internationally for Samoa,” said Dean Richards.
“We have really liked what we have seen of him and expect that the supporters will too and fully anticipate he will repeat what he has done all the way throughout his career and establish himself as a key member of the squad.”
