Rugby legends return to Wimbledon

David ReesLegends is back this summer with its South London festival, combining high quality sport with fantastic entertainment. Taking place at Wimbledon RFC on July 12 tickets are selling fast, with ex-internationals and Legends Rugby ambassadors Serge Betsen, Dafydd James, Phil Greening and Catherine Spencer all supporting the event.
The ambassadors are assisting Legends Rugby in the run-up to the festival by attending various unique events such as the Long Lunch hosted in Soho last month, where further rugby legends such as Jim Hamilton, Rory Jenkins, Chris Sheasby, Leon Lloyd and Tom Voyce were also present.
Ex- international, Serge Betsen, already a firm fixture at the Legends Rugby festival, comments: “It was great to catch up with the guys at last year’s event and reminisce about old times. This festival really brings to life the spirit of rugby. The crowds really got behind their teams and although I not have been part of the winning side in 2013 as part of the London Legends we’ll be giving a run for their money this year!”
Former England women’s captain, Catherine Spencer continues: “Last year we had so much fun, it was amazing weather and the rugby after party was a blast. There was a great turn-out of teams and spectators.
“With the women’s Rugby in August, this year is the year to get involved in the sport. As well as being an ambassador I’m also proud to be a patron of one of the festival’s charity partners, the Tag Rugby Trust, it will be great to see them, and School of Hard Knocks, benefiting from this event.”
Phil Greening, the former England hooker adds: “The Legends Rugby Festival genuinely delivers a great family day out. I heard loads about last year’s event and felt like I’d missed out when I saw it all over Twitter. I will definitely be there on the pitch this summer. Last year we had eight Legends teams signed up to play, this year there are 12 so the festival is definitely getting bigger and I know Wimbledon RFC will be great hosts.”
Former and international Dafydd James says: “This year will be my first time at the Legends Rugby Festival and I can’t wait for the 12th July to come round. The Blues will be travelling down for the event and we’re hoping the fans will follow to cheer us on as we take on the Saracens 2013 winners and win the Paladin Legends Trophy.
“The City League will be there for the first time this year with some very competitive teams from companies such as JP Morgan and Ernst & Young. All in all, it will be a day filled with friends, rugby and plenty of beer, can’t wait!”
