Legends Rugby will be returning to Wimbledon on July 12 with its rugby festival that promises to be even bigger and better than last year’s party. Combining family fun with sport and music, it is going to be the perfect summer day out.
Over half of the Aviva Premiership’s teams have signed up to enter a Leg- ends team including Leicester Tigers, London Irish, London Wasps, Worcester Warriors, Gloucester plus London Welsh, Bristol and Cardiff Blues. The festival will see 2013 champions Saracens RFC defend their title, aiming to take home the Paladin Legends Trophy for the second time.
Last year’s festival hosted over 3,000 people and, with tickets including VIP options now on sale, the event is set to once again stir demand from rugby fans and their families. Legends including Lewis Moody, Sam Vesty, Henry Paul and Chris Sheasby will be competing throughout the day and fans will also have the chance to share a beer with Legends ambassadors Serge Betsen, Dafydd James and Phil Green- ing.
BLK, one of the world’s fastest growing sporting apparel brands, will this year partner with Legends Rugby for the first time.
Legends Rugby Director Ian Dawson says: “We weren’t surprised by the suc- cess of the 2013 festival as we know from the popularity in Dubai and Hong Kong that there is a real appetite in the UK for Legends Rugby – not only from the fans but the players too. We’re lucky to have the support of some of the game’s most famous players across the years, and are looking forward to 2014 being even bigger and better.”
On the day there will also be a social veterans’ tournament which you can enter and play alongside some of your rugby heroes. The UK Veterans ten-a- side tournament involves games just ten minutes each way and a maximum of five games. With the UK Vets teams having the option of being in the Beer or Champagne League and a women’s and children’s tournament also taking place on the day there is something for everyone.
Former Leicester and Samoa player Freddie Tuilagi says: “I had a fantastic time at last year’s event with my family and it was great to play. I’m looking forward to being involved again and having a few beers with friends and fans.”
Mark Robinson, former Northampton and All Blacks half-back, continues: “Last year there was a fantastic atmosphere and I had a lot of fun, it’s great to get the guys backs together and remind us of the camaraderie and friendships and have an enjoyable day.”
James Haskell, the Wasps and England back row star, added: “I really enjoyed last year’s festival. It was a great day out and the weather was amazing!”
