British & Irish Lions captain Sam Warburton will miss the Series decider in Sydney on Saturday with a hamstring injury.
The Welsh flanker limped off the field in Saturday’s 16-15 defeat to the Wallabies and scans revealed a significant tear in his left hamstring.
The captaincy is set to be passed to the 2005 tour captain Brian O’Driscoll while Sean O’Brien or Justin Tipuric are in contention to fill the gap at openside as the Lions look for their first Series win since 1997 in South Africa.
Warburton said: “It is incredibly disappointing to be ruled out of the tour through injury as we head to Sydney for the deciding match.
“I wish the team all the best and hope I can play some part in the build up this week. I am confident that the boys can finish the job off and secure the series win.”
