Sonny Bill Williams to play in Rugby League World Cup

Sonny Bill Williams’ potential cross-code switch will have to wait after it was confirmed the superstar will take part in the League with .
His reported move back to the looked set to be announced when he was ommitted from the Kiwis’ 24-man sqaud named yesterday morning having “other commitments” but hours later he made himself available to come to as New Zealand look to retain their World crown.
If nothing is certain any more about his playing future, Williams confirmed on Sunday that the announcement should be made in the next couple of weeks.
Kiwi coach Stephen Kearney had to drop a player from the squad as a result (Tohu Harris) but he admitted the possibility to had SBW in his squad was too good to turned down.
He said: “It’s been a tough situation, but Sonny brings things to the group that we couldn’t ignore. He has had time since his NRL grand win to clear his head and he wants to represent the Kiwis on the world stage.
“He missed our 2008 World Cup win and his inclusion will be a great asset in trying to repeat that success this year. It’s not only his footballing ability, but also what he brings off the field which will benefit the team.
“It was a conversation no coach would like to have, but he (Harris) is a terrific young man and I’m sure he’ll have many more opportunities to pull on the black jersey. It’s been a unique set of circumstances for all involved, but for now our focus is getting set to defend the World Cup with the team we have.”
