1. Decorative cushions
My wife insists on them because she says it makes our place look pretty, but to me they just get in the way. I really don’t see the point in putting cushions on top of your bed, when, after all, it is only me and the Mrs that sees inside the room! They normally just get thrown on the floor or, if I can get away with it, they’re hidden underneath the bed. There is simply no need for them in any aspect of life.
TRP verdict: How do we cushion the blow? No need to! You’re in.
2. Salads
I hate the fact that fast food is bad for you. It frustrates me whenever I see someone eating a burger or fish and chips while I’ve got a plate full of rabbit food. I enjoy going out for a good meal but I object to paying £12-15 in London for some leaves when you can get a nice juicy steak for a few quid more. However, I was able to over indulge a little bit at Christmas this year because I had two dinners! We had one with all the trimmings at my parents’ house in Neath, and then we drove to my in-laws in Bristol and had the full works again, with goose. I loved every minute of it.
TRP verdict: Fast (food) forward into Room 101.
3. The morning after…
With the way we like to play – taking it to the opposition up front – there are a lot of battered bodies around the place come the day after a game. Waking up the morning after a match is not a nice feeling; you feel like you’ve been in a couple of car crashes. The day after a game is pretty much a write-off for me, I don’t do anything strenuous if I can help it. The Monday after the Quins game I had to attend a ‘Scrum Factory’ session, that’s part of my Level 2 coaching course, and we had to get into scrum positions which, with bad knees, bad shoulders…bad everything, was the last thing I felt like doing. It’s even tougher this season because there are no easy games in the Premiership and we’ve only got a small squad so a lot of the boys are playing a lot of rugby. Unlike all the other teams we can’t call up academy players because we don’t have one. Don’t get me wrong we all love playing at this level, but it is a bit frustrating when you’re quite tired and you’re not able to give 100% because your body won’t let you.
TRP verdict: If you don’t like Mondays, try playing on Saturday instead of Sunday. You’re out.
