Room 101: David Rose – Aviva Premiership referee

David Rose1. Pundits
Whatever the sport I get annoyed when so-called “experts” try to be clever by using slow motion replays to show examples of poor technique or decisions from officials, especially as they have all the technology and time to either research or review incidents and still get things wrong, technically, tactically or in law. They quickly forget what it’s like to be in front of crowds, operating in a highly pressurised environment, at high speed and under loads of stress, added to which your heart is pounding at around 180 beats per minute! Try doing anything “normal” under that stress and you’ll soon see why on occasion officials and players make mistakes.
TRP verdict:  Unfortunately every Rose has its thorn. Unfair criticism is unavoidable. You’re out.
2. Delivery companies
I was under the assumption that we live in the 21st Century with mobile technology, GPS tracking and all manner of communication devises. So why on earth do some companies still insist on saying they can only give a morning or afternoon delivery? Surely it is not beyond the wit of man for them to provide all their drivers with phones and GPS tracking so that we, the paying customer, can expect a decent service without having to take time off work or worse drive to some far-flung depot that has unhelpful opening times to collect parcels. Some companies already do this, so why not all? It’s about time they moved out of the dark ages.
TRP verdict:  Better late than never, you’re in .
3. Gym bunnies
I have to use the gym a lot to stay in shape, so nothing annoys me more than when some idiots decide to load up the racks with plates, spend ages doing their sets (most of the time talking, looking in the mirror, or mincing about) then get up and leave the bar fully stacked! The same applies to dumbbells which get left all over the floor or other parts of the gym. Is it too hard for these idiots to put things back and leave the bars clean?! For those of us who are serious about training it’s a case of get in, get it done and get out: short, sharp and specific. If you want to look in the mirror, then you should stay at home or join a dance class!
TRP verdict:  So that’s why they’re called dumbbells! You’re in again.
