Head coach Brian Smith reckons it’s time for London Irish to get their season going but warns his players they will have to be at the top of their game to handle Wasps‘ flyers out wide.
The Exiles travel to Adams Park on the back of two defeats but are still hoping for a play-offs qualification.
He said: “We realise it’s time to get a win to get the season going. We’ll need 12 or 14 wins to qualify so getting a result this tomorrow is very important.
“Wasps are a very different opposition. They have some big ball carriers and a lot of speed on the wings so we’ll have to be at the top of our game.
“They play a blitz defence so we won’t have time with the ball but we understand the strength and weaknesses of that defence system as it is similar to the one we use.
“We just want to execute the basics well. If we get all the details right, the scoreboard will sort himself out.”
Irish’s defence caused concerned with 80 points conceded in the opening two rounds but Smith is confident they can take that number down with the help of defence guru Shaun Edwards.
He added: “I’m confident we can get the points we concede down. Shaun is a great coach and the players are very committed to learn from him.
“Last week against Gloucester was a big improvement on our first performance against Saracens and we are looking for another sizable one against Wasps tomorrow.”
