Bedford Blues show intent with new deals for Jacob Fields and Will Hooley

Bedford have announced first-team stars Jacob Fields and Will Hooley have signed new deals to remain at Goldington Road for next season.

The hooker and international fly-half become the latest players to commit to the Blues, with prolific try-scorers Dean Adamson and Ryan Hutler also agreeing new contracts in recent weeks to remain with the club.

Speaking about the re-signings, Bedford director of rugby Mike Rayer said: “Jacob and Will are both key members of the Bedford Blues squad who have both continued to develop superbly since arriving at Goldington Road.

“Jacob has come on leaps and bounds since joining us from and he continues to get better every week. He’s a confident young man you has all the attributes that you’d want in a hooker, he gives 100 per cent every time he takes to the field and he never takes a backward step. He’s the sort of lad that you want in your squad and it is great that he’s committed to another campaign.”

“Will is an outstanding fly half who has taken the opportunities presented to him and is in line to be part of the squad heading to for the 2019 World Cup. That has come about because of his hard work and commitment at the Blues and I’m really pleased that we’ll be seeing even more of that next season.”

Fields arrived at the club as a former Loughborough Student, where he worked under the tutelage of former and hooker George Chuter.

The 24-year-old has gone on to make 59 appearances for Bedford in his three season with the club.

USA fly-half Hooley took little time to adjust to international rugby after winning his first cap in 2018, the same year in which the Gary Gold-coached Eagles recorded their first ever victory over a Tier One nation – stunning 30-29 in Houston.

Fields and Hooley join the growing numbers at Goldington Road for the 2019-20 season alongside new signings Joe Atkinson (), Scott Jenkins (Scarlets), Dan Temm () and Matt Worley (Northampton Saints), while Will Carrick-Smith, Ed Taylor, Josh Buggea, Oli Curry, Lewis Robling, James Lennon, Rich Lane, Alex Penny and Sean McCarthy have all agreed new deals.
