1. Alan Paver – A stalwart for Pirates, who was a true professional and a great lad to boot. Always felt more comfortable going into a match with him next to you.
2. Joe Ward – Brought great banter to the Wasps locker, but also got round the pitch superbly well for a hooker. Just a bundle of energy in everything he did.
3. Census Johnston – Was going to give myself a run, but having played against Census in France it has to be him. Staggering strength in the scrum and he is a great ball-carrier too. For a simply huge bloke, his work rate is brilliant.
4. Will James – Another of Pirates’ great servants. A serious workhorse who was very aggressive around the park.Horrible to play against; great to have on your side.
5. Simon Shaw – A one-man maul-destroyer. Shawsy is extremely disruptive in defence but has all the skills as well. Has looked after himself so well that his best rugby has come in the last five years.
6. Tim Cowley – Just had zero respect for his body. A real grafter who loved to smash people, but put as much into a night out after the game as he did on the field.
7. Will Brock – Together at Rugby Lions and he also played 7s for Australia. Nice surprise he was quite funny for an Aussie. He never missed any tackles and was excellent over the ball.
8. Mamuka Gorgodze – I played with Nick Easter a couple of times, but this bloke is something else. He genuinely made you fear facing Montpellier.
9. Gavin Cattle – This guy would skipper my side because he really is Mr Consistency and a real role model. Has been outstanding since coming back to Mennaye Field.
10. Alex King – His game management was just ridiculously good. Not only that – his goal-kicking and distribution were not too far behind. His cool head won so many games for Wasps.
11. Vilimoni Delasau – Another incredibly talented Fijian that I saw a lot of in France. He possessed unbelievable speed and could beat a defender in five metres.
12. Fraser Waters – Will forever be known as an underrated and underused player, but ran the show at Wasps and became our defensive general. A real unsung hero who should have played for England his whole career.
13. Mark Fatiolofa – Wonderful step, great skills and, like a typical Islander, loved making big hits for Pirates. A really good lad as well – he would say ‘I’m not going out’ and you would always see him at two in the morning.
14. Paul Sackey – Just a clown. A top finisher to have in your team as well, but mainly he could just make everybody laugh.
15. Wes Davis – An exceptional counter-attacker. People would certainly come to watch this side if Wes was playing. Has had two spells with Pirates and is a firm fan favourite now.
