1. Brett Sturgess – Plenty can be said about ‘Sturg’. He once said he was the first name on the team sheet but that’s mainly because he wears No.1.
2. Luke Cowan-Dickie – I’ve picked him on current form. Right now, he’s head and shoulders above a lot of hookers around. Unlucky not to be involved more with England.
3. Hoani Tui – He played a lot in the same front row as Brett. So much so they called themselves the A-team. They have to be in my team.
4. Dean Mumm – Great player who brought us a lot as a team. We were the underdogs but he helped us get the belief that we deserved to be at the top playing with the big boys.
5. Luke Charteris – He’s been exceptional for Wales over the years. Being so big he brings a lot of weight to the tight five. Great to have him in the Premiership with Bath.
6. Dan Lydiate – He’s younger than me but we were in the Dragons academy together. Very strong farmer and puts in a lot of tackles on the pitch.
7. Colin Charvis – He was a Welsh international when I was in the academy and it was quite daunting to have these big guys around us. So good at the breakdown, too.
8. Dave Ewers – He’s such an important ball carrier for Exeter. He’d be my main go-forward player in the pack.
9. Gareth Cooper – A British & Irish Lion who made a lot of breaks from the base of the ruck. I remember watching him growing up and then playing with him which was great.
10. Gareth Steenson – He’s a big part of us being promoted to the Premiership and then pushing on. He’s been there the whole way and that says a lot about him.
11. Matt Jess – An awesome winger who didn’t miss a game for the Chiefs for four or five years. He talks a lot on the pitch which I like as a full-back
12. Jason Shoemark – A big Kiwi who joined the Chiefs a few years back. I played a lot of games with him in midfield and I always enjoyed it.
13. Sireli Naqelevuki – I’ve seen him do things on the pitch that don’t go with his huge frame. I remember a game against Quins where he ran over ten people in one carry.
14. Jack Nowell – He has a big impact on the Chiefs when he’s playing. We might not have the same dress sense but he’s a very good player.
15. Gavin Morgan – He was the starting full-back at the Dragons when I was coming up and his injury gave me a shot at the shirt. He took me under his wing and made me feel like I was part of the team.
