1. Soane Tonga’uiha – He could only last 20 minutes when he first turned up at Bedford but his potential was obvious, I’ve not seen a prop carry like him.
2. Rory Best – A natural leader at Ulster and a genuine top bloke. The amount of “unsung” work he gets through is phenomenal.
3. Alan Paver – An absolute hero down in Cornwall. Could bore you to death talking about scrums but his attention to detail pays off on game day.
4. Craig Hammond – Such a hard, uncompromising player and a very good leader for Nottingham.
5. Steve Mafi – Someone I believed would be a star in the Premiership but left the Tigers before he really got started. Absurdly quick for such a big bloke and also very skilful.
6. Sean O’Brien – We were in the same Ireland U21s team and he’s gone on to great things. Incredibly strong over the ball and as a carrier.
7. Jacques Burger – We played Saracens in pre-season a couple years ago and he was everywhere, probably the toughest guy I’ve played against.
8. Stephen Ferris – Such a shame he had to retire so early, I doubt he was even at his peak when he was one of the best in the world. I’ve never been hit harder, and that was in training!
9. Will Chudley – I’ve known Will since our days at Kettering RFC minis and it’s great to see him doing so well at Exeter now. I don’t see why he can’t push for a Saxons place this year.
10. George Ford – Tore us apart in a pre-season game when he was only 18. Running the show at Bath now and should be doing the same for England at the World Cup in my opinion.
11. Tommy Bowe – An incredible athlete and a very intelligent rugby player. His Gaelic Football background means he is an aerial threat as well as being rapid.
12. Sam Hill – I’ve played with and against Sam and its a lot easier playing with him! He’s always been a big unit but has now added good distribution skills. Does a great job for Exeter and will probably end up solving England’s midfield problems in a couple years.
13. Will Greenwood – I played against him when Quins were relegated a few years ago. He showed so much class on the ball, always picking the right option and making it look effortless.
14. Jack Nowell – Quickly becoming a bit of a folk hero in Penzance following his exploits with England last year. Not only is he a very good player, he is giving young Cornish kids something to aspire to which is great.
15. Mike Brown – Even at U21s level he showed that same aggression. Incredibly competitive and very hard to kick to due to his strength in the air and excellent running and kicking game.
