1. Tom Davies – A very mobile prop at Doncaster who has fantastic hands and is great at offloading. Solid in the scrum and has an exceptional work-rate.
2. Neil Cochrane – My old Bedford teammate was the best hooker with ball in hand that I’ve played with or against and a real leader.
3. Faan Rautenbach – The quiet man at London Irish is an absolute powerhouse. He is so strong and I have never seen anyone destroy a ruck quite like he does.
4. Nick Kennedy – He will be sorely missed by Irish. He was quick across the pitch and was great at lineouts – the type of player you can always rely on to do his job well.
5. Richard Blaze – Just a machine at Worcester, capable of frustrating any team on his day. He would put his head in all the nasty places that you didn’t want to go. Such a shame he had to retire at 25 with a foot injury.
6. Jon Fisher – His all-round game is great but his ball-carrying skills are unbelievable. Could carry the ball all day long and linked play brilliantly.
7. Shane Jennings – He was excellent in every department when I played against him. He is so big and strong he can withstand many punishing blows and still come out fighting.
8. Nick Easter – The off-loading king was a key part of Quins’ march to the title. A little older now but he has a lot of experience and is a wise head to rely on.
9. Darryl Veenendaal – He has that X Factor that every successful side needs. He creates tries out of nothing and was a magnificent character to have in the dressing room at Bedford.
10. Jonathan Sexton – Can play across the back-line, but he is best at 10 where he shows he is so capable of orchestrating the game.
11. Sailosi Tagicakibau – Great at off-loading and just has so much power to carry him through. He doesn’t have many weaknesses and is a proven quality player.
12. Brian O’Driscoll – I came on near the end of the last-minute win against Leinster in the Heineken Cup three years ago, so it was great to play against a legend. Still phenomenal at carrying the ball and always holds the line.
13. Jonathan Joseph – JJ has a lot of class about him. He has great hands and is mentally switched on for his age. He can provide that cutting edge in midfield.
14. Alesana Tuilagi – Big game player with tremendous power. He is definitely a game changer and his force in the tackle is incredible. He is also surprisingly rapid for such a big guy.
15. Geordan Murphy – Has been a tremendous leader for Leicester down the years and he is another one who can change the game in an instant. He can tear you apart with the ball in hand.
