England‘s women will play their first ever standalone match at Twickenham next year against France in the Six Nations.
The Red Roses have played several matches at the largest stadium solely devoted to rugby before, but always after England men’s fixtures.
Between 2003 and 2020 they played each team in the competition at Twickenham, including five games against each of France, four against Ireland and three against Scotland, and also faced New Zealand, Canada and the USA there in Autumn Internationals in 2011 & 2012, 2016 & 2017 and 2018 respectively.
But this will be the first time they don’t play a game that follows a men’s match, with the men’s and women’s tournaments now being played at different times in the year.
“To have a standalone Red Roses fixture at Twickenham Stadium is exciting and a real marker of where the game is at,” head coach Simon Middleton said.
“We know there are some big targets to sell out the stadium at the 2025 World Cup and it’s great we have the opportunity to draw a big crowd two years out.
“Games against France are always great occasions and contests and I expect this one to be no different.”
In the meantime, England are currently in New Zealand as they prepare for their World Cup campaign, beginning against Fiji on October 8th.
The Red Roses are overwhelming favourites, with 4/7 odds to win the tournament, well ahead of 9/4 hosts New Zealand.
