Wasps sting Sarries in Premiership Cup

Luke Mehson scored four tries as defeated 40-21 in the Cup on Tuesday night.

In , Mehson was the star for Wasps as they ran in six tries to dismantle Saracens, but they need a very unlikely set of results in Wednesday’s matches to have a chance to progress in the competition.

A string of penalties took Wasps towards the line, and Ryan Mills’ perfect cross-field kick found Mehson in acres of space on the right wing who could dot down unattended to open the scoring.

Manu Vunipola gathered the ball from a maul and his delightful kick went from right to left and allowed Rotimi Segun to gather and race away in the corner to level the scores.

Elliott Obatoyinbo’s clearing kick was then charged down by Nizaam Carr, and it bounced up perfectly for him as he pounced on it to dot down from close range.

Once again Wasps’ neat interplay created some space and made an overlap on the right wing, allowing Mehson to stroll over for his second of the evening.

But Sarries responded through a Vunipla grubber kick that bounced up kindly for Sam Bryan, with the half diving under the posts.

The lead wasn’t within striking distance for long though as Mehson then completed his hat-trick to earn Wasps their bonus point.

A long looping pass found the winger in space again, and he stepped the man to dive over in the corner.

Samson Adejimi crashed over from close range for the visitors before Mehson rounded off a memorable night with a fourth try and Wasps scored in the dying seconds off a driving maul touched down by Michael van Vuuren.
