Former Harlequins coach Nick Easter has agreed to join the Sharks coaching team as a consultant for the upcoming Super Rugby campaign.
Easter was part of head coach Rob du Preez’s coaching set-up which delivered a first Currie Cup success to the KwaZulu-Natal club in five years.
And Easter, who spoke to TRP about his experience in South Africa in November, is set to be welcomed back to Durban with open arms according to du Preez.
“Nick added tremendous value during his time with us last year and really fitted into our team culture. His experience and the tactical knowledge he imparted was excellent and I am sure as a young coach he also enjoyed embracing a new culture and learning from us”, du Preez said.
“He has such a positive influence within the team environment and we look forward to him joining us next week.”
Easter departed Twickenham Stoop in August 2018 following his transition from Harlequins first-choice no.8, to player-coach, to a two-year stint as defence coach.
Like current Georgia forwards coach Graham Rowntree, who also left Quins a month before Easter, the former England international explored opportunities to coach overseas and found his calling in South Africa.
After a 17-12 win over Western Province earned the Sharks their eighth Currie Cup title, they now turn their attentions to the might of the southern hemisphere starting on February 16 against the Sunwolves.
