At the first post-Covid dinner staged by the Welsh Sports Hall of Fame in Cardiff the other night, Wales got around at long last to picking Billy Boston, well, after a fashion.
The 88-year-old Rugby League superstar took his place on the stage alongside four other Welsh wings: Maurice Richards, Keri Jones, Ieuan Evans and Nigel Walker. Asked which two he would pick, head coach Wayne Pivac entered into the spirit of the occasion.
“Ieuan is vice-chairman and my contract will be coming up for renewal so he plays on one wing,” Pivac told some 300 guests. “Nigel is head of performance so he plays on the other.
“Keri will make a real impact off the bench. Liam Williams is out for the autumn series so that makes Billy the perfect choice at full-back.”
