World 7s is a waste of time and money

WHY do we participate in the travelling circus that is the World Sevens Series? Rugby 7s is now very rarely played in clubs, never discussed in clubs, and no one is concerned about the game.
The team in Dubai was unrecognisable and very few players emerge into senior sides. How much does it cost to send a team of players, management, physios and doctors around the word, with salaries, air fares, hotels etc - what is the reward?
It is not shown on any major TV channel or in newspapers so why not withdraw and save the considerable cost, or is it part of the RFU bonus scheme? A waste of...
