YET again the RFU has woken up in the middle of the night and is shocked by how dark it is. Throughout the professional era ‘Twickenham’ has neglected the grassroots, and the game in state schools has been left to die. Only heroic school outposts producing great players and great teams are keeping the flame alive. By contrast, rugby in public schools has been funded to bring in the best players from state schools on scholarships.
