IN The Rugby Paper’s letters page (Sept 29), Neil Edwards describes how Championship clubs’ crowds are too low to allow serious investment in players by those clubs. If the RFU reverted to promotion and relegation between the top two leagues, as at all other levels, clubs such as Coventry and Cornish Pirates might make that investment.
Newcastle’s defeat to Harlequins last weekend was their 23rd straight Premiership loss. Yet the north-easterners have no fear of being replaced by an ambitious club like one of those mentioned. How can that be right!
