BRISTOL, ENGLAND - OCTOBER 17: Referee Nigel Owens looks at the Heineken Champions Cup Trophy prior to the Heineken Champions Cup Final match between Exeter Chiefs and Racing 92 at Ashton Gate on October 17, 2020 in Bristol, England. (Photo by Dan Mullan/Getty Images)

The Champions Cup final was as exciting as we expected, but the decision not to stop the clock in extra-time, while reviewing Josh van der Flier’s try, was to my mind a gift to Toulouse, because it took three minutes to decide the outcome.

Three minutes is a long time in rugby, a lot can happen. A converted try or a penalty conversion could have brought Leinster back into the game.
