KENT’S recent County Championship final win was admirable, and the picture of their team in The Rugby Paper showed what it meant to the players, and how they relished the chance to test themselves occasionally at a higher level.
Yet the RFU is gradually allowing that competition to wither away under English rugby’s current mantra of ‘league status is the be-all and end-all’; a mantra which has led directly to many clubs – even in the Premiership – having serious financial difficulties.
