England rugby’s ‘annus horribilis’

THIS season has been an “annus horribilis” for English Rugby Union.
Three professional clubs have folded because of financial difficulties. In addition, there has been an unprecedented plethora of unnecessary red cards issued.
The award of the most ridiculous red card must go to Jaco Peyper’s sending off of Freddie Steward in the opening minutes of England’s Six Nations game against Ireland.
