Not enough rugby is played in our schools

I WAS very interested to read last week’s article by Chris Hewett regarding the dwindling numbers playing competitive rugby.
I understand that my old club now fields only two teams when 30 years ago there were four plus a Vets team.
There are numerous reasons for this reduction, many of which Chris covers in his article but a significant factor is the lack of rugby being played in state schools. Again, there are numerous reasons which will not be resolved without dramatic intervention at government level.
