BRENDAN Gallagher’s article was an excellent tribute to one of the great coaches of Welsh and British rugby, Ray Prosser.
Coach to the great Pooler sides of the 1970s and 80s which included several seasons where they were unbeatable, in particular between 1978 and 1980.
Pooler’s unbeaten record came to a halt on Wednesday October 22, 1980 when Gloucester won 11-9 at Pontypool Park. This led to Max Boyce making the now famous comment, when told that Gloucester beat Pooler the night before: “Did they really!” What Ray Prosser said about that, no one knows!
