Explain the action but don’t rabbit on

I TOTALLY agree with last week’s letter from Derek Penhaligon regarding commentators speaking too much.
As a rugby follower and administrator I am bored with commentators continuously chipping in with ordinary chat.
Why can’t they follow the southern hemisphere commentators who speak briefly and allow the spectator to watch the game?
I appreciate that they are trying to explain to new audiences but try to explain in simple terms and not rabbit on for talking sake. Are they paid for the amount of words they spout or for their knowledge?
