IN RESPONSE to Jordan Crane’s remarks in last week’s My Life in Rugby re state school rugby. While accurate in regard to the number of games played, they don’t really reflect the work ethic of state school PE staff and extra curricular commitment.
We ‘spread ourselves very thinly’ owing to staffing resources at times. For example, most private schools are able to support each team with two/three coaches, while I oversee four/five teams alone. Some state schools don’t have rugby teams at all. I wasn’t lucky enough to coach Jordan,he left South Bromsgrove before I started, but my predecessor ran the school teams with aplomb, albeit alone.
