IT is an unpalatable truth for most Premiership clubs that rampant wage inflation has played a big part in the perilous financial position many of them are in with the lockdown still with us. Clubs have paid salaries for star players that far exceed what they can afford, and it appears now that the 25 per cent cuts to some salaries could become the new normal when the rugby season restarts.
There are also moves afoot to reduce the salary cap from £7m to £5m.
