AND they’re off, predictable as night following day. The runners and riders chasing high office at World Rugby are suddenly saying all the right things in all the right places about reshaping the sport and broadening its appeal once Covid-19 has stopped having its miserable way with us.
What a load of flannel. The game will continue to be the plaything of the foundation unions and a tiny handful of supplicants – Argentina, Japan, Italy – because there is zero appetite at Twickenham, still less in New Zealand or South Africa, to do right by the second-tier nations.
