JEREMY Guscott is right. The scrum at Test level is a disaster – and boring. The solution is simple.
First, and importantly, ensure all props have their outside leg up, and bent – not straight back – currently dangerously far back. The current practice almost guarantees collapse.
Next, stop this nonsense about “set and engage etc”. Let the scrums go down in their own time, as they used to. Finally, make sure the No.9 puts the ball in straight and we may yet see a return to the art of hooking, which has disappeared.
