THE playoffs are to offset those who have been hindered by international call-ups during the season and for the obvious financial benefit for the Premiership and RFU. We can see that this season there has been a large gulf between the top two teams and the remainder. Objectively, for both teams this is because of the depth of talent they have.
The improvements made by Gloucester and Northampton must be applauded but when it came to the playoffs both were strongly beaten by the top two. However there should be recognition for the side finishing top of the pile after 22 rounds.
