HAVING watched a surfeit of rugby in recent weeks, it has dawned on me how not putting the ball in straight can be solved.
I have noticed that many referees scrape a line on the pitch where the scrum is to take place, usually lengthwise on the pitch. If this line was scraped crossways on the ground this would indicate the position of the scrum and also assist the referee in ensuring the ball is put into the scrum straight along this line. No more feeding into the second row!
