JEFF Probyn posed some good questions as to why no English coach seemingly wants to reach the pinnacle (Why does no Englishman want to lead national team, Dec 16).
For me a big reason is media intrusion/ criticism which can hurt the close family of a coach. Stuart Lancaster was treated like a criminal after England’s early exit from RWC2015 but the classy way in which he responded shamed most of his critics. He did not make excuses – a plausible one would have been that England had the hardest qualifying group of any host nation since 1987.
