AGUSTIN Pichot, World Rugby’s vicechairman, came in for a lot of criticism this week over his tweet showing the percentage of players in Tier 1 nation teams born outside of the countries they represent – but he had a good point.
If the rich Unions continue pilfering the best talent from overseas, rugby will continue to be dominated by the more powerful nations.
Pichot says Scotland (46.3 per cent) and Japan (37.1) are the biggest culprits, with South Africa and Argentina at the other end with 100 per cent born on home soil.
