Jimmy Gopperth won’t be the oldest-ever player to feature in the Top 14 next season after all, after his Provence side – who finished the regular campaign at the top of the ProD2 – lost their home play-off semi-final to Grenoble 23-22 on Thursday evening.
Provence outscored their opponents three tries to one, but Gopperth – who had far from a poor game – missed a 61st-minute conversion that would have put the home side in front, after Sam Davies had dropped the visitors into the lead.
