THE Government has rejected calls for the Six Nations to be given Category A listing, thereby increasing the likelihood of the tournament disappearing behind a paywall from next year.
A request for the championship to be guaranteed free-to-air coverage by upgrading it from the Category B list had been made by the cross-party Digital, Culture, Media and Sport select committee. Category A events include Wimbledon, the Grand National and both football and rugby World Cup finals.
