WALES will launch a global search for Shaun Edwards’ successor knowing that they may already have found him on their own doorstep.
Byron Hayward, the defence coach behind the Scarlets’ climb towards Europe’s top tier, has emerged as the leading Welsh contender, fittingly so for a former amateur boxer who used to spar with Joe Calzaghe. Wales’ head coach-inwaiting, Wayne Pivac, made Hayward his first appointment for the Scarlets four years ago.
Edwards has decided to call it quits with Wales next year and rejoin Wigan as head coach.
